Le Fae Artist: Michelle Dinh

Day 6 of Le Fae manifests with a more modern take with FEATURED ARTIST Michelle Dinh!

Artwork by Michelle Dinh of Sunflowerhues.

Michelle Dinh is a Cambodian American artist residing in Southern California. She has a BFA in Illustration from CSULB and merges her formal education with surrealist elements. Her work is driven by color and all things whimsical. You can find her on Instagram @sunflowerhues.

Michelle’s digital illustration “Dream State” for Le Fae depicts a world of whimsy. Purchase the framed 13 inch x 19 inch digital art for $300.

The original is available to purchase through the artist by visiting her at www.instagram.com/sunflowerhues. Please visit their page and message them on how to collect this original work of art.

MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

Hi! My name is Michelle Dinh but I’m also known as Sunflowerhues on Instagram. I am an illustrator who is in the process in trying to make a living with my art. I graduated with  BFA in Illustration in 2019 from CSULB and currently navigating the art world.

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

I primarily do two different types of art, editorial and whimsical illustrations. My main medium is digital because it is flexible and convenient. I feel more liberated to experiment with a digital file compared to a painting.

  • When did you know you were an artist?

I have always been drawing for as long as I could remember but didn’t realize I was an artist until I was a junior in high school trying to figure what career path I wanted to go to. Art was the first thing that came to mind and stuck ever since then.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

I applied to this show because I always wanted to be a part of a pop culture themed exhibit. Ironically, I ended up making original work for this show. Originally, I wanted to do a Thumbelina and Cornelius piece but as I was making roughs for that piece, I wasn’t feeling it. I started making random thumbnails of random doodles to help fight off the art block and ended up with making an original design. I wanted to make something regal and dreamy and approached it with a small color palette to bring emphasis on the subject matter. I love designing clothes in my art of things I would like to wear.

  • Where did you hear about Bubble Pop Gallery and what made you want to be in the show?

I have known about Bubble Pop Gallery for a while to a point I don’t remember how I found out about the gallery to begin with. One of my goals in 2020 was to apply to be part of one the gallery’s shows so I kept an eye on their news updates for any openings.

  • Have you ever done a gallery show before? If yes, how many?

Yes! I have been in six galleries and counting!  I really like being part of galleries and collaborative work in general. It has always been a dream of mine since I was seventeen to have my work in exhibits.

  • What is your favorite thing about being a creative?

My favorite thing about being creative are the endless possibilities and seeing what I am able with my own hands.

  • What inspires you?

I am inspired by nature, especially flowers. That’s why my Instagram names is Sunflowerhues. The name is a reference of two of my favorite things – sunflowers and color theory. I am obsessed with color theory. Flowers play a prominent in many of my works.

  • How does art make the world a better place?

Art takes you places – of places you want to go, of places you can only revisit through art, and places that only exist in the safe space. Art is liberating. Sometimes when words aren’t enough to have your message come across, art is the answer. Art is also healing. I use art to cope when there are bad things in life.

  • Where are you located?

 I’m located in Southern California!

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

Currently I am trying to freelance for a living as one of my goals for 2021. Besides this show, I have two other artworks that are going to be exhibited. One will be in Huntington Beach Art Center from late January to March. You can view that virtually. And the other will be announced very soon on my Instagram 🙂

  • Where can people find you?

Etsy Shop: www.etsy.com/shop/sunflowerhuesart

Instagram: www.instagram.com/sunflowerhues

  • Anything else you would like to share?

My main goal is to illustrate children’s books. I hope this will come true very soon.

Le Fae Artist: Lindsay Haigh

Day 5 we find FEATURED ARTIST Lindsay Haigh.

Lindsay Haigh of Linzertart

“I’m a cake/fondant sculptor that recently started making polymer clay sculptures and reliefs. I enjoy sculpting animals, creatures, and various fan art. I like the weird and whimsical.”

For Le Fae, Lindsay created this amazing one-of-a-kind hanging sculpture, pixie dust included!

TITLE: “Fallen Fae”
SIZE: 8” x 10”
MEDIUM: polymer clay/wood/acrylic paint/glitter/metal chain hanger
PRICE: $100

The original is available to purchase through the artist by visiting her at www.instagram.com/linzertart. Please visit their page and message them on how to collect this original work of art.

MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

My name is Lindsay Haigh aka Linzertart. I got the nickname Linzertart from my husband because I work in a bakery full time, and a Linzertart Tart is a kind of pastry. He has shortened it to just LT now.

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

I create whimsical and weird sculptures and reliefs out of polymer clay, acrylic paints, wood, and sometimes fur. My full time job, I sculpt figures out of fondant and Rice Krispie treats.

  • When did you know you were an artist?

I’ve always been artistic, as far as I could remember. My art teachers always encouraged me to pursue it. I never knew what form of art I liked better. My BFA is in oil painting, but I haven’t oil painted since college.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

I wanted to explore the idea of a fairy that was not typically beautiful and shows a sickness of nature. My “Fallen Fae” is sickly looking, bloated tummy, looking upwards for answers and is connected to the earth around it. I was heavily inspired by old Roman sculptures.

  • Where did you hear about Bubble Pop Gallery and what made you want to be in the show?

I heard about it through Instagram and the Isle of Magic.

  • Have you ever done a gallery show before? If yes, how many?

Yes, this is my third.

  • What is your favorite thing about being a creative?

It’s been fun creating with different mediums. I started last year mostly doing 3D sculpts and then I really started enjoying doing reliefs. Im now doing a mixture of both, but also starting to play with procreate.

  • What inspires you?

I’m inspired by nature and animals. Animals are so pure it’s hard not to be inspired by them.

  • How does art make the world a better place?

I think it gives people an outlet. For me it’s been great exploring my style and figuring out what and who I am as an artist. It also connects people! I’ve met so many amazing artists through Instagram. It’s so nice to support and be supported other artists and also get inspired by them.

  • Where are you located?

Buffalo, New York

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

I’m working on some new “bird houses” and wall hangings and a couple bigger sculpts.

  • Where can people find you?

You can find me @linzertart There is a link in my profile for my store. I announce when I have shop drops through my Instagram.

  • Anything else you would like to share?

Most of the sculptures I make weekly are edible and it’s nice to know the work I am making and selling at home isn’t getting eaten.

Artist Carolina Lebar.

MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

I’m Carolina Lebar, and I’m an artist and illustrator. I was born in Bogota, Colombia, and I currently reside near the breathtaking Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. My illustrations and paintings begin with soft pencil work, then I typically glaze with acrylic or oil paints. I’m most known for my fantasy art of beautiful women and animals, which often combine the beauty and strength of women and nature. I’ve shown with galleries along the east coast and normally am found in the artist alley at most large conventions like Dragoncon and Illuxcon.

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

My art features female goddesses, elves, and occasionally fae, mingled with nature and mythology. It’s my way of expressing the beauty, strength, and resilience I see in women and nature in a way that looks beyond human life, into spiritual beliefs, to give hope there is something even more beautiful waiting.

  • When did you know you were an artist?

I’ve been drawing since I had a crayon in my hand, but I think I was an artist when others began seeing my talent and calling me an artist. The word artist is a bit of a label when you think about it, but the undeniable drive to create just exists strongly within me, it always has and always will.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

This show is 100% perfect for me because I have always enjoyed expressing that there are fae in the world if you believe! My painting, “Fragile Beings” was inspired by Tess Lark, a beauty and fellow artist I found on IG, and she became my muse. My piece portrays her in her human form but the gold accents show her Goddess magics. She is the Mother Moth Goddess and her goddess is always within her as a human, but she shines when she wants, to whom she wants, and when she is needed to help her fellow fragile beings.

  • Where did you hear about Bubble Pop Gallery and what made you want to be in the show?

I found Bubble Pop Gallery on Instagram and have been enjoying following the account, can’t wait to see more!

  • Have you ever done a gallery show before? If yes, how many?

I have had a solo show at Zapow Gallery in North Carolina as well as numerous group shows with them. I was a part of a small group show of four in the Art Garden Gallery in North Carolina and I’ve been a part of numerous group shows with Slushbox Gallery in South Florida. The show with Bubble Pop Gallery is my first west coast show, and I am so excited to be working with them!

  • What is your favorite thing about being a creative?

I think my favorite thing is that art is an outlet during crazy times. The act of sitting down and drawing creates such a wonderful distraction, it’s really a “happy place”. It’s a fantastic, natural outlet for letting go of stress from everyday life. Often, I’m so lost in my work I find I unintentionally skip meals. Once I come up for air, I realize OMG I’M STARVING! Lol.

  • What inspires you?

Almost always it is a photo of a woman or animal, I’m very visual. It can also be an inspirational story about humans interacting with nature, or an old tale or mythological belief that inspires a new piece.

  • How does art make the world a better place?

Art freely gives pure joy. Whether it’s music, colors, a painting, an expression, whatever, it’s meaningful to the person it delights.

  • Where are you located?

I live and work in East Tennessee.

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

I’m working on a one-off sketchbook which I’m filling with things I really enjoy exploring creatively. I’m working on some sketch pages I’ll turn into post cards. Lately I’ve been live streaming on IG while drawing animal illustrations on Friday nights, join me!

Day 2 brings you a bright delight! Greetings to FEATURED ARTIST Victoria Virginia.

Victoria Virginia with her original oil painting titled “Delilah.”

Victoria is a Contemporary Pop-Surrealist artist specializing in beautiful fantasy portraits and landscapes. These paintings transport you to a dream-like and surreal world where she shows a reflection of her inner self. She is influenced by the world around her, (including/mainly) her wife and children, dolls, fantasy games, and sci-fi and fantasy books. Over the years, her hard work and ever-evolving signature style has transformed into what you see today.

Her passion for creation has been an overwhelming obsession since a very young age. She is a self-taught artist, spending her childhood, teen, and young adult years exploring graphite pencils and acrylic paint.

Around 2017 she found a new love for oil paints and the magical mixture of
coloring pencils and watercolors as a combined medium.

Victoria’s work has been shown is galleries around the U.S., and her work has even appeared in the Star Dust Art Collective and Innovative Creations Magazine. In March 2017, she was a featured artist for Sketchbox.

Pop on Pause

Hello fellow Bubble Pop fans!

It has been a while since we’ve posted as we’ve all in a bit of a limbo. With our gallery currently on pause since Spring, we don’t have much to report back. As soon as we have more definitive dates we will be posting about them. As of right now, sit tight, and continue to support artists and other galleries that are open. Because of our pop up model and because Bakersfield Art Walks are paused, we are waiting like the rest of the world once things get turned back on.

We are planning future events and possibilities. Thank you all for your support and kindness. We are excited to announce that our curator, Ashleymarie Sey Lively, just received recognition for Bakersfield Life Magazine’s the “20 Under 40 People to Watch in 2020”, featuring our gallery and its success. This year we’ve also had a wonderful RISE: Women’s Art Show, which while was interrupted by this long pause, was successful and full of life.

Any artists who have filled out this year’s Art Calls, know that we are revising everything and will be reposting new information and dates as soon as we can.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as this time is a wild ride, but we will pop up again, I’m sure.

Sincerely,

Bubble Pop Gallery
