Le Fae Artist: Quiete

Day 16 of Le Fae welcomes Quiete!

Quiete was born on January 1st in Milan during a cold winter. There she attended the School of Applied Arts of Castello Sforzesco, obtaining the Diploma of “Maestro d’Arte” in Illustration. She briefly lived and studied art in beautiful Florence, now she lives and paints in Milan, Lombardy, Italy. By the end of 2019 she started to exhibit her art in group shows around the world.

“Tangerine Dream”
6.5″ x 8″
Acrylic and oil on canvas textured paper
$200

The original is available to purchase through the artist by visiting https://quieteart.com. Please visit their page and message them on how to collect this work of art.

MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

My name is Federica but for my art I go by Quiete. It means “calmness”, “stillness” in Italian. It has a profound meaning to me.

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

I find inspiration in pop-surrealism and illustration. I like to think of my art as a “place” of calmness, where time is non-existent and everything is still.

There you can find my children made of paint, in the twilight sleep made of unconscious feelings.

I work mainly in oil and acrylic, sometimes mixed techniques. I also love watercolors and now I’m experimenting with gold leaf.

I don’t know what an artist is, really, but I always strive to make something meaningful.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

I applied to the show because I’m attracted to otherworldly and magical creatures, and I think all of us have a little magic inside.

My work for Le Fae was inspired by moths, they are such beautiful beings of the night and their longing for the light is bittersweet and poetic at the same time.

  • Where did you hear about Bubble Pop Gallery and what made you want to be in the show?

I’ve heard it from a lovely collector and I immediately was inspired by the theme.

  • Have you ever done a gallery show before? If yes, how many?

I started to exhibit my work in shows at the end of 2019.

As of now, including Le Fae Art Show, I’ve participated in five shows and I hope to participate in many more!

  • What is your favorite thing about being a creative?

What I love the most is the possibility to enter a different state of mind.

  • What inspires you?

I’m inspired by alchemy and dreams.

  • How does art make the world a better place?

When you watch a painting, a little piece of beauty enters your heart and it never leaves. And then, people carry this beauty inside of them not consciously knowing it’s there but it is. It enriches everything, even the gloomiest day.

  • Where are you located?

Right now I’m located in Milan, Italy, but my soul belongs to the beautiful city of Florence where I lived for five years.

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

I’m working on three different group shows at the moment and I’m so excited!

  • Where can people find you?

I have a website: https://quieteart.com and an Instagram account: https://www.instagram.com/__quiete__/

  • Anything else you would like to share?

I know things have been rough lately, for everyone, so I just want to say thank you. Thanks for letting me share my work with all of you. I hope it brightens your day just a little bit. Try to find the joy in the adventures in front of you, even if they are still a little bit down the road. And don’t forget to say hello to the people around you, it’s nice to feel seen. I see you. Hello friends!

Le Fae Artist: Elizabeth Daughtery

Day 15 of Le Fae welcomes Elizabeth Daughtery of DGeekArt!

Elizabeth Daugherty is a freelance artist, Illustrator, and graphic designer from Rosamond, California. While she has always drawn and doodled, she started working freelance as an artist and Illustrator in 2015 and has had the opportunity to work on unique projects for local small businesses, as well as comic book industry veterans, and popular YouTube channels. She loves creating works that are bright, colorful, and evoke feelings in the people who see them. In her “free time” she enjoys being with her husband, her son and her daughter.

Prints: 11″x14″ for $25

and

“Joyful Adventure”
11×14″
Copic Marker
$125
Prints: 11″x14″ for $25

The originals and other items are available to purchase through the artist by visiting the DGeekArt Shop. Please visit their page and message them on how to collect these original works of art.

MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

Hi guys, I’m Elizabeth Daugherty the artist behind D Geek Art.

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

I create colorful illustrations and caricatures. I work in several mediums, but my favorite is Copic Marker or Watercolor.

  • When did you know you were an artist?

I have always drawn and doodled. Looking back, I can remember drawing in all the margins of my notebooks in school all the way through college. I was always doing art of some sort, but I didn’t consider myself an artist until about 5 years ago. My husband encouraged me to put my work on social media to share with others. I was hesitant, but the reception to my work was so kind and genuine. I really pushed myself to take some online art classes and work on my personal style and what I wanted my art to be. As I have progressed I have tried to share experiences with my audience through my illustrations and paintings.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

I love fairy stories, especially how they are both unique and universal simultaneously. You can go anywhere in the world and every culture has some sort of fairytale unique to their region or people, but at the same time similar to stories you have heard before. I especially love Celtic stories of the Fae creatures, Water Nymphs, Faeries, Leprechauns, Banshees, Changelings, the idea that there are all these fantastical creatures around us all the time that we can’t see, it brings a little magic into our world. My watercolor painting “Hello Friend” is inspired by wondering if all fae creatures know each other. Maybe they try to be so secretive with humans that it makes them just as illusive to each other. So what if some Spring Faeries met a Water Nymph? I imagine there would be a curious, but kind interaction as they got to know each other better. My Copic illustration “Joyful Adventure” is inspired by Dungeons and Dragons and the excited joy you feel when going somewhere new. The road ahead is full of possibilities, my little Tiefling girl is ready for whatever life throws at her as she journeys in a fantastical land.

  • Where did you hear about Bubble Pop Gallery and what made you want to be in the show?

I heard about Bubble Pop Gallery a little over a year ago on Instagram. I have followed Sey Studios for a while, and saw many a Bubble Pop post from them. I have wanted to apply for many of the shows they have hosted, but to be honest I wasn’t ready. I was still learning, growing, and finding my art voice, which can make you feel a bit intimidated. I am in a place now where I am confident in my art style and what I want to share through it, and the idea of starting with something as hopeful and fun as Le Fae was too great an opportunity to let pass me by.

  • Have you ever done a gallery show before? If yes, how many?

I haven’t done any gallery shows before, this is my first and I am so excited!

  • What is your favorite thing about being a creative?

I think being creative give me a unique perspective on life and the people around me. Not everyone expresses themselves in the same way. My favorite thing about being creative is that I can share my experiences and feelings through my illustrations in the hopes that it speaks to the people who see it, and that it helps others know that they aren’t alone in what they are going through, whatever that may be. Being creative helps me connect with others.

  • What inspires you?

My family, music, and my experiences. Going through certain situations in life, good or bad, can evoke big emotions and sometimes it’s easier for me to explain things through art than it is for me to explain using words. When I feel compelled to draw or paint something specific I try to listen to that creative, because inspiration can come from places and experiences we wouldn’t expect.

  • How does art make the world a better place?

It makes a connection between people where there may not have been one otherwise, brings people together, and can teach people how to have empathy, love, hope. It reminds us we aren’t alone.

  • Where are you located?

I am from Rosamond, California.

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

I am currently working on illustrations for a fantasy style children’s book I wrote. At the moment it’s in the character design phase, but it’s been encouraging to be able to work on a personal project and see it slowly come to life. Another project I am working on is designing apparel for Hack Shack Studios. Two years ago I designed their mascot Inko, and now I am helping them create shirts with Inko on them for the Studio and their fans. I am also working with an upcoming comic book studio, and while I can’t share specific details at the moment, but I will be sharing news of projects on my social media as soon as I can. It’s been a lot of fun working with this small group of creators to make something special.

  • Where can people find you?

I am easiest to find on my Instagram @DGeekArt and my website, www.DGeekArt.com

  • Anything else you would like to share?

I know things have been rough lately, for everyone, so I just want to say thank you. Thanks for letting me share my work with all of you. I hope it brightens your day just a little bit. Try to find the joy in the adventures in front of you, even if they are still a little bit down the road. And don’t forget to say hello to the people around you, it’s nice to feel seen. I see you. MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

My name is Sey! I am an artist, illustrator, curator, and homeschooling mother who lives with my husband, two kids, and my dog Luna (also my office assistant).

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

I create art that is positive and happy, that will light up the soul when it is seen. I love working with bright colors and sparkles. I decided on being an illustrator because it means I can play with many different mediums, but my favorite to work with is acrylic and watercolor.

  • When did you know you were an artist?

When I was barely old enough to stand and could hold a crayon. I wanted to be an artist and a mother. I’m living my dream.

  • Have you ever done a gallery show before? If yes, how many?

Yes, I have done at least a couple hundred. I keep a running list of them.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you created to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

Le Fae was born out of wishes and magic. No really, since Bubble Pop Gallery was put on pause with our monthly group shows last year, I started thinking outside the box on how I could curate a show online and make it interesting. We all could use some more magic and hope. I came up with a fairy themed show, for my love for fantasy and imagination. This curated collection of original enchanted art would be featured in a new virtual way with artist interviews, live art sessions, and themed original art and prints available for purchase for customers.

  • Why did you decide to partner with Isle of Magic Marketplace?

Partnering up with Isle of Magic Marketplace was a dream. I spoke with the curator of that event, Eva Lacy, and we wanted to partner up to make her magical online vendor event even bigger. I love what Eva does with her event, featuring new vendors with magical shop items. We felt both events worked well side by side together. Joining forces to share our events together embraces our community over competition stance and belief artists and creatives are better together.

  • What do you want people to take away from Le Fae Art Show?

I want people to take away hope and magic, that it is always possible to find even in the dark. I want patrons and artists to see that we can collaborate and make beautiful things; that we can be different and similar at the same time. The vast uniqueness of the world’s created in their work and all from the same fairy theme, is endless and wonderful. Take even the artist’s who paint during lives, the way they make something from nothing… what seems like a blank piece of paper, wood or canvas, turns into something we could never imagine right before our eyes. Nothing is as it seems, and we need to open ourselves up to possibility.

  • How does art make the world a better place?

I want to radiate light, love and laughter in everything I create! Everytime I feel down, like I’m not worth it, and I should stop going… past customers and fans message me at just the right time letting me know I’m making a difference in their lives. It’s all worth it.

  • Where are you located?

Bakersfield, CA

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

Goodness, so many! I’m working on more small handmade originals (like one-of-a-kind brooches, magnets and framed arts), another children’s book, my Patreon rewards club, and commissions.

MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

Kate Carleton

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

I create fun colorful illustrations in different mediums. From pop art culture I enjoy to original character creations. I love drawing on my Ipad using procreate and also using watercolors to paint as well.

  • When did you know you were an artist?

I realized this is what I wanted to do after obsessing over animated films growing up and spending my freetime drawing in my room.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

I love fantasy! it’s my favorite genre. I applied to the show having done shows with BubblePop before and always having a good time/experience. So thinking about which fairies I loved, I remembered Ferngully. I loved the message of the film and the animation styles of Don Bluth studios. So it was decided I would make a piece based on the main character Crysta.

  • Where did you hear about Bubble Pop Gallery and what made you want to be in the show?

I have done several shows with Bubble Pop Gallery over the years and first found them through a mutual artist I follow online. I decided to apply and the rest is history.

  • Have you ever done a gallery show before? If yes, how many?

Yes I have. I’ve done shows with Popzilla Gallery, Knott’s Berry Farm, Mize Gallery, and Gallery 1988 as well.I’ve done it for a few years and have lost count, but this year has definitely been my most active with gallery work.

  • What is your favorite thing about being a creative?

I love just creating new characters or bringing joy to other drawing characters that I love and they love as well and bonding over that. I also have done a few commissions that were very touching to be asked to do from proposals to pet memorial portraits. I always feel honored when anyone wants a commission or buys arts from me.

  • What inspires you?

So many things! Other artists I follow online to just places I enjoy. I know I always feel inspired when I get a chance to enjoy at least a few hours at Walt Disney World. Just the atmosphere and knowing one man built this from a dream inspires me daily to do more and relaxes me as well to clear my head tostart a new project. It’s my happy place.

  • How does art make the world a better place?

Art brings memories and feelings to others, whether they are good or bad. This is important because it lets us know we are alive and have emotions and feelings. Art can also send messages to the right people as well, helping with change sometimes for the better.

  • Where are you located?

Tampa, FL

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

Let’s see I have some art book submissions lately I’m waiting to hear back if I made the cut to be in the book, but one I know I will be in for sure coming out this year is a Firefly art book published by Printed in Blood and Titan Books. I believe it’s on Amazon for pre-order right now.I also have several shows coming up with Gallery 1988 this year. That’s all I can share for now…

MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

Craig Fraser.  I’m a working artist.

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

I specialize in airbrush work on vehicles, guitars and wall murals, but I also enjoy mixed Media canvas work.

  • When did you know you were an artist?

I have always drawn and painted.  Used art to pay for college. Never really considered myself to be an artist till after I graduated and that’s what I did for a living.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

I like the challenge of a themed show. To follow the theme, but in a direction most wouldn’t take.

  • Where did you hear about Bubble Pop Gallery and what made you want to be in the show?

I’ve been to and participated in previous shows downtown.

  • Have you ever done a gallery show before? If yes, how many?

Yes. I’ve lost track. Probably 50 over the past 20 years.

  • What is your favorite thing about being a creative?

Not knowing what I’m going to paint next.

  • What inspires you?

Subject matter from “left field”.

  • How does art make the world a better place?

Because it is purely for appreciation and inspiration. It is not needed as much as wanted. “Want” ends up becoming the biggest need that separates and defines humankind from the animals.

  • Where are you located?

Bakersfield, Ca.

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

I’m working on a kustom painted series of guitars for Minarik and Fender Guitars. I am waiting for the release of my latest canvas originals and prints with Disney.

Le Fae Artist: Dani Iglesias

Day 11 of Le Fae meets us with the lovely Dani Iglesias of Cocktail Hourglass!

Dani is a creative professional obsessed with cinema, sketchbooks and mid-century styling. In her free time, she dabbles in illustration, creative writing and an overwhelming number of crafts and interior design projects. Dani holds a Master of Arts in Design Management from Savannah College of Art and Design and is thrilled to work at Walt Disney Imagineering.

The originals and other items are available to purchase through the artist by visiting her at www.cocktailhourglass.etsy.com. Please visit their page and message them on how to collect these original works of art.

MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

I’m Dani Iglesias! I’m an artist and designer based in Glendale, California. I’m mildly obsessed with movies, cute animals and breakfast cereal. Not necessarily in that order.

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

It’s heard to exactly define my creative categories because I dabble in so many things. I was fortunate to attend an arts magnet high school in Florida where they emphasized learning everything as a foundation: sculpture, digital design, 2D art, photography. On top of that, I adore crafts. So, essentially, if it’s artsy, I’ve probably attempted it. These days, my illustrations tend to be focused on pencil sketches and gouache paintings that capture the whimsical shapes of midcentury design.

  • When did you know you were an artist?

My mom used to say that when I was two, I asked her to type up a poem I’d composed to go with an illustration of a woman I’d done in crayon. I have no memory of this, but it was one of those cringey stories your mom tells all your cool friends to embarrass you. I grew up in a house where my parents were so supportive of creativity, so I think I’ve always felt like I was an artist.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

I was definitely one of those little girls who was obsessed with all things fairy. It was fun to apply a magical twist to the drink-inspired artwork I create for Cocktail Hourglass, reimagining my curvy Lushies as fae who preside over cocktails. The Champagne Fairy is sort of grape-inspired, since grapes are used to make champagne. And the sassy Gin Fairy is inspired by a martini, complete with a little cocktail onion garnish and all!

  • Where did you hear about Bubble Pop Gallery and what made you want to be in the show?

Easy answer! The Lively family is awesome and I was so inspired by their creativity. I’d wanted to be a part of something with Bubble Pop for a while now, and having this downtime during the pandemic has let me focus on my art more.

  • Have you ever done a gallery show before? If yes, how many?

It’s been a whilesince I’ve done a gallery show! Definitely more than a decade. I used to show in some little local galleries in Arizona and Florida.

  • What is your favorite thing about being a creative?

I love the way that creative people approach life. Sure, we’re the friend you call when you need to pick a paint color for your wall or need your wedding invitations designed. But we also approach challenges from a totally different head space. I love using that right-brain thinking on everyday tasks, like how to maximize space when organizing or putting together a business plan. I’m all about the outside-the-box approach.

  • What inspires you?

All sorts of things.  Books, tv shows, movies, and comics that I enjoy.  I also get inspiration from various mythology and fairy tales.  Mixing and matching things.  I often do a lot of research before starting many of my pieces which ends up in massive pinterest boards.

  • How does art make the world a better place?

I consider myself a designer first and an artist second. The distinction is really interesting to me. Art is usually made as a form of expression – it’s art for it’s own, beautiful sake. Design is specific and targeted – it has a goal that needs to be met. I love one of Paul Rand’s quotes that says “design is a problem solving activity.” I’m tickled by this idea that we as creatives can use design thinking to help solve problems by approaching them in unique ways.

  • Where are you located?

Sunny Glendale, California! I’d always dreamed of living in Southern California, and two years ago that dream became a reality.

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

I’m really excited to be partnering with a few small businesses who are as passionate about well-crafted cocktails as I am! I’ve been developing themed cocktail kits that are one-part art, one-part mixology to create a brand-new Cocktail Hourglass product that should debut in late February!

  • Where can people find you?

Cocktail Hourglass is on Instagram and Etsy right now. I’m always looking to connect!

  • Anything else you would like to share?

Only that it’s an honor to be part of my very first Bubble Pop Gallery show!

MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

I’m Jessica!  Online and when I table at live shows, I go by Winged Coyote Designs

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

Most of the art I create recently is based on many different fandoms, whether it’s for gallery shows, personal interests, or commissions.  When I do original work, it tends to be fantasy and mythology based.

  • When did you know you were an artist?

I’ve been drawing since a very young age.  Basically I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t drawing or doing art.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?  I’ve participated in Bubble Pop Gallery’s before and really enjoy the experience, so I was happy to see a new theme and show.  I had a lot of ideas circling in my head based on fairies, but ended up going with two childhood animated favorites for inspiration, FernGully: The Last Rainforest and Thumbelina.

  • Where did you hear about Bubble Pop Gallery and what made you want to be in the show?

I’d been looking for doing more tribute galleries and I think it was @asiadraws on Instagram post about Bubble Pop, so I checked it out!  It was nice that they are in California, but still took mail in submissions as most of the places I looked into at the time were local drop offs only, which limited options.  The themes for Bubble Pop have always been interesting and it’s great to see what others come up with as well as providing inspiration for myself.

  • Have you ever done a gallery show before? If yes, how many?

So many I’ve lost count!  I started up with them over two years ago!

  • What is your favorite thing about being a creative?

Creating new things and designs that just make people happy.  One of the things I miss about conventions being on hold is just the atmosphere of when someone sees something they like.  Something that brings a memory of their childhood.  Seeing the moment that someone gets a joke in a piece.    It’s nice to be able to take something from my head that I want to be in the world and then be able to share that with everyone.

It brightens up the world, whether it’s the environment around you or your own mind. It can bring contentment and joy or provoke thought. It can help people work through and process emotions. Or even just give a bit of rest to a weary mind.

  • Where are you located?

Currently in San Diego, CA.

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

I have a few things in the work for my Isle of Magic feature day as well as pieces for The Artist Lodge’s Flora Fauna show that goes through March.

  • Where can people find you?

@wingedcoyotedesigns on instagram is the main place that I update.  I’m also at @wingedcoyoteart on twitter and wingedcoyotedesigns on tumblr.  My Etsy is https://www.etsy.com/shop/WingedCoyote .  My website is www.wingedcoyote.com .

  • Anything else you would like to share?

Not that I can think of!

Haley Callahan is an illustrator and artist living in the San Fernando Valley. Normally her day job is an Universal Studios Hollywood, but 2020 provided an opportunity to develop her artwork. She graduated from Belhaven University in Jackson, MS, in 2012 but moved to LA a year later when she married her husband. Her favorite subjects are theme parks, classic monsters, intimidating women, and the Fair Folk, of course. Especially when she can tie it back to her favorite feminist fantasy, LABYRINTH. She uses the handle Tricksterbelle on social media to showcase both her art and video essays.

MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

Hello! My name is Haley Callahan, and I am an artist and creator in the LA area.

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

I make illustrations and designs with emphasis on fashion and character, and I usually work with ink pens and watercolor.

  • When did you know you were an artist?

I’ve been offbeat and creative since I popped out of the womb. I discovered my love for drawing in the seventh grade.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

I’ve always been one of those nerds who gravitates toward fantasy. One of my early influences was Amy Brown, and my favorite movie of all time is Labyrinth. I also think Labyrinth is essentially a film about female empowerment. And that has been my main inspiration for these pieces. Taking visual cues from the cute Amy Brown fairies and making them a little scary because they’re in charge. They have their own power.

  • Where did you hear about Bubble Pop Gallery and what made you want to be in the show?

I follow several LA artists who have shown at the gallery and found out from their posts. Since I had more time for finished art due to quarantine, I decided to try for the show.

  • Have you ever done a gallery show before? If yes, how many?

I did a couple gallery shows back in college. Ten years since my very first show!

  • What is your favorite thing about being a creative?

My favorite thing is being able to speak in visual language, and synthesize all my influences into something uniquely me.

  • What inspires you?

I find inspiration in folklore and mythology, as well as interesting places like theme parks and mid-century tourist traps

  • How does art make the world a better place?

Art allows a voice for the voiceless, and can show perspectives that otherwise can’t be pictured.

  • Where are you located?

Outside Los Angeles, around the San Fernando Valley.

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

I also make video essays on my Youtube channel. I talk about art history, pop culture, and Disneyland.

  • Where can people find you?

I go by Tricksterbelle on all the social media platforms. Instagram, Twitter, Tiktok, Youtube, and Tumblr.

  • Anything else you would like to share?

Stay safe and be kind!

Le Fae Artist: Karrie Rhodes

Day 8 of Le Fae meets us with a new week and a new artist! Welcome to Karrie Rhodes!

Karrie Rhodes Painting + Mixed Media = The world of pop art and fantasy collide. As a child of the 80s, I fell in love with bright colors, contrasting designs, and the mystery of Sci-Fi thrillers. These inspirations have led me to design fun filled images with the nostalgia of childhood and a touch of pop art. I spent my childhood in the Midwest but planted roots in California. I enjoy contributing to local art programs, installations, and art shows. You can find my permanent art at the Sounds of Downtown and many art exhibits throughout the country. I teach acrylic sip n paints every Sunday and enjoy sparking the creative side in everyone I meet.

I am often asked when I started creating, drawing, painting… I can remember at a small age, maybe 4-5, using the Comic strip in newspapers or my brothers DND books to create art. I loved the bold outlines of the comics and characters. I could sit and paint for hours. I was encouraged by my parent to keep drawing and painting. This leads to today, with years of creating, I am blessed to share my art with you. Feel free to follow my art journey on Instagram, Facebook, and my Etsy Shop, GoodyK Art.

MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

Hello, I am Karrie Rhodes, I spent my childhood in the Midwest but planted roots in California. I enjoy contributing to local art programs, installations, and art shows. I teach acrylic sip n paints every Sunday at 2pm PST and enjoy sparking the creative side in everyone I meet.

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

The world of pop art and fantasy collide. As a child of the 80s, I fell in love with bright colors, contrasting designs, and the mystery of Sci-Fi thrillers. These inspirations have led me to design fun filled images with the nostalgia of childhood and a touch of pop art.

  • When did you know you were an artist?

At a young age I would teach fantasy art class to all my stuffies and Barbies, maybe even He-Man, loved to draw new comic book characters, and learning about different arts (I still do all these things). These may all be signs, but it was fate that made me realize, Hey I am an artist.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

Growing up in the countryside Nebraska on a lake and the river. My world was nature, fantasy, and mystical things. From misty fog covered lakes to frost bitten forests the Fae were all around me. Including my sketches. When I saw the artist call, I knew I had magic to add to the Le Fae. So enchanted to be part of the show.

  • Where did you hear about Bubble Pop Gallery and what made you want to be in the show?

Bakersfield has a growing art culture. Meeting Sey, and the inspiration she brings to both the Gallery and her artwork. I have loved every show, the artists and all the exciting things to come.

  • Have you ever done a gallery show before? If yes, how many?

Yes, throughout my art career, I have showed art from the Midwest to Seattle down to the South. Hoping to expand to more shows throughout the USA.

  • What is your favorite thing about being a creative?

I love to look at a finished piece and think of how art it has come. How a piece of art is created from the blank stage and the final product.

  • What inspires you?

There is inspiration all around us, I love to peek into children’s creative minds and examine a seasoned artist process. Nature, nature keeps us going, the growth, change, and colors.

  • Where are you located?

I am in Sunny Bakersfield, California.

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

I am currently working on building a larger t-shirt designs and sticker shop. Hopefully by the end of Summer.

  • Where can people find you?

You can find me on Instagram @goodyk_art or Etsy www.etsy.com/shop/goodykart

Le Fae Artist: Becca Quant

Day 7 of Le Fae transforms toys into her own world of whimsy with BECCA QUANT!

Becca Quant is an illustrator/artist located in Southern California. She works in a variety of painting and drawing mediums, as well as creating one of a kind customized toys and sculptures. Her work is inspired by folklore and fantasy and she also has a love for all things sugary sweet.

“Alette Shimmerfrost”

MEET THE ARTIST

  • Start off and tell us your name! Who are you?

Hi, I’m Becca Quant, I’m an artist/illustrator in LA, though I’m originally from Philadelphia.

  • What kind of art do you create and what medium do you work in?

I would describe my work overall as whimsical. I like to experiment a lot with different mediums and techniques. I’ve studied traditional drawing and painting, but I also love craft arts like ceramics/sculpture and fiber art. In the past several years I have gotten into customizing vinyl toys, collectible and play-line and I love it because it perfectly combines my skill sets in different mediums.

  • When did you know you were an artist?

It’s always been a part of my life but I suppose I knew I wanted to pursue being a professional artist around the age of 12/13, which is why I chose to go to an arts high school as a visual art major, and then studied fine art and art history in college.

  • Le Fae is about all things magical fairy! Tell us about why you applied to the show and what inspired the work you made for the curated collection?

I love fairytales and folklore- growing up I read a lot of fairytales, and learned about folklore and mythology from all over the world. Stories, starting with the beautifully illustrated stories I read as a child, I would say are my biggest inspiration. Some of my favorite artists that have inspired me since I was a kid are best known for their fairy and fairytale illustrations: Brian Froud, Arthur Rackham, Kay Nielsen, Trina Schart-Hyman. For this particular collection I made a custom fairy doll, using the combination of techniques (drawing, painting, sewing, mixed media arts etc.) that lead me to love toy customizing.

  • What is your favorite thing about being a creative? How does it make the world a better place?

Anytime my work reaches someone in some small way- to make someone smile or inspire them to create their own art- I love the connections art can make between people whether they know each other or not. I think art is an exercise in empathy, and also a form of time travel in the way it connects people.

  • What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

During lockdown I’ve been focusing on creating my own artwork, building my personal business while also doing commissions and freelance work for others. The biggest thing is learning more about filming and editing, as I’d like start up a YouTube channel to show more of my process.

  • Where can people find you?

You can see more of my work on Instagram @beccaquant and @beccaintoyland
